What Makes A Good Leader Writing By Liana

Task Description: Room 12 has recently been writing about what makes a good leader. We read some speeches from famous people such as Malala Yousafzai, Winston Churchil, Abraham Lincoln and more. After reading about these speeches we had to write our own speech on what makes a good leader. Here is my speech. :)))

    What Makes a Good Leader

A leader who knows the way goes the way and shows the way

Said by Jackson C Maxwell. I think that a good leader is made by someone with Confidence, Passion, Determination, Problem Solving and Empathy. These are the core qualities of a true leader.

Confidence

I think a leader should have confidence. Confidence is the base of a good leader. As a leader you should be able to speak in front of a horde of people. You should have the ability to not shy away from people and speak for the smaller voices. But having confidence as a leader isn’t always about speaking aloud its

also about inspiring others to be confident about themselves.

Passion

Passion is a strong feeling of euphoria that motivates you to do what you love. A leader’s courage to fulfill their dream is passion. Passion is about truly liking what you do. A leader should have passion for what they do. If Abraham Lincoln didn’t have passion he wouldn’t have passed with pride.

Determination

Determination is about willing to go above and beyond to do what is needed. Determination is about acting with certainty. A leader should have determination so they can lead people with assurance. If Winston Churchill didn’t have determination he wouldn’t have successfully led a war.

     Problem Solving

A very obvious need for a leader is problem solving. Without knowing how to solve problems there would be chaos. Leaders should know how to solve problems peacefully without any harm as well as understand the situation or problem.

Empathy

Empathy is seeing into the eyes of others

Having empathy as a leader helps you understand someone else’s situation. With empathy you can bring out the best in other people, you can motivate them. Having empathy is the ability to connect with others and empowering them to be better. A leader is not only about leading, leaders have empathy for others and the ability to bring out the best in you.

That’s what makes a phenomenal leader.

On Athletics day we did High Jump, Long Jump, Shot Put, Disk Throwing etc and lastly we had relays and a race 🙂 Since i’m not mucb of a sports person my favorite activty was discus. Why? Because it didn’t include any running. If you didn’t know, I HATE running so thats why I enjoyed discus the most.

Great Beginning By Liana

Task Description: Last week Room 12 had written some Great Beginning writing. I had decided to go with the flow and write whatever came to mind. This is my writing enjoy reading (I wrote this in a rush sorry)

A Walk at Night

The luminous stars being the only thing at sight, The sounds of my footsteps echoing as I walk along the soundless path, there is no one around. The birds chirping while the trees slowly sway as the wind becomes stronger. My hair whooshing back as the light breeze gently hits my face. Then I hear a sudden sound… A scraping sound, someone is here.

Learing about Pi By Liana

Task Description: Yesterday Team Tui was learning about Pi. For this task we basically had to measure the diameter and circumferience. The circumferience is the measurement around a shape and the diameter is the measurement inside. Here is a photo of us measuring objects to find the diameter and circumfereince.

My Reading Task 2

Task Description: This task is basically just like my previous task but instead it’s a different part with different stories. This task I did a little bit before the previous one. I did this task in a reading group and I enjoyed doing it. Thanks for reading 🙂

GRANNY

Granny lived in a dark house that was at least as old as she was. She had worn black for all of the thirty years since my grandfather had died. Her wooden stick clumping slowly down the stairs told us that Granny was on her way. Then she was there: a dark, bent figure, her narrow, glinting eyes peering at us. A pointy black hat and a broomstick would have completed the picture.

Although she looked fierce, Granny was kind. She always gave me a penny – a large, heavy coin. But, before the penny, came the question: “How many pennies have you got now?” I counted out my penny collection from my right hand pocket. I thought that if I didn’t count out the correct number of coins I wouldn’t get any more, so I never spent any of them. The number of pennies grew and so did the weight in my pocket. One day I found that some of my money had slipped through a hole. I dreaded the thought of Granny’s usual question.

Next time I saw Granny, when she asked me how many pennies I had, I gulped and stuttered. “How many did you have?” she inquired. “How many have you got left?”

I answered the questions correctly as quickly as they were asked.

Granny smiled. “Well, you know how to do your sums”, she said as she handed me a handful of pennies.

  • What did the writer think his Granny looked like
  • She always wore black clothes and she always walked around with a wooden cane
  • How did the writer get a hole in his pocket
  • From the weight of the coins I think
    1. Did the writer look forward to seeing Granny after losing the coins? How do you know that
  • No because the grandson literally said “I dreaded of the thought of grannies usual question” and when granny asked the question he gulped and stuttered
  • Was Granny angry? How do you know thatNo, because she smiled.

THE COAT

Jemma rushed from the classroom to the row of coats and, changing her pace only slightly, grabbed hers from the peg. Awkwardly, for she was carrying her homework books in her arms, she pulled it on

She was late, she realized. Her older brother, who was giving her a ride home, got irritated when she was late. Talking to her friends after the last bell had gone had taken more of her time than she had thought, and she had arranged to meet Joe immediately after school

She ran as fast as she could across the playground, clutching the books to her body, skipping over and around the puddles, and down the path to the road. She threw her bundle onto the seat of the car and, brushing back the wet strands of hair from her eyes, clambered quickly in after them

Joe looked at her in the rear vision mirror, and said bad temperedly, You’re late!”

She smiled nervously back at him, and pulled off her coat. Sorry, Joe. But, look, before I forget, I met Andrea before school this morning and she asked me to give you this note.”

Jemma fumbled in a pocket of her coat, and, not finding what she was looking for, turned it over and thrust her hand into the other pocket. Then with a small gasp of horror, she looked at the name tag on the collar of the coat. There, in bold black letters, she read DIANA KIRBY.

  1. Had Jemma been late meeting her brother before? How do you know that?
  2. I’m guessing maybe because in the beginning of the story she said “Her older brother got irritated when she was late”
  3. Did her brother normally give her a ride home from school? How do you know that?
  4. No because Jemma realized that her brother was giving her a ride.If he always gave her a ride she wouldn’t have to realize that her brother was picking her up.
  5. What was the weather like?
  6. I’d say a bit rainy
  7. Did Jemma get into the front or back of the car? How do you know that?
  8. No because her brother looked at her from the rearview mirror which would mean she was sitting at the back.

Thats it 🙂

My Reading Task

Task Description: This is a reading task I did last week that I forgot to post about. For this task I had to read a short paragraph and answer some questions. This task is actually a lot like my inference cards task but instead the paragraphs are on a doc. Thank you for viewing my blog post 🙂

ITEM 6 BOB

Bob trolled along beside Dave. Suddenly there was a bark and a flash of white and Bob was gone, racing across the road. Before Dave fully realized what was happening there was a screech of brakes and a dull thud.

    1. A dog

  • What happened to Bob?
    1. A might have been hit by a car

ITEM 7 THE PARADE

The children craned their necks and looked eagerly into the distance. When they heard the first sounds of the band they knew that, at last, the Santa parade was not far away and coming closer. A.small boy at the front seemed not to notice. Eventually his friends tugged on his shirt and pointed in the direction of the approaching parade. As he turned, his eyes lit up.

  • Why was the boy taking no notice to start with?
    1. He was looking elsewhere

  • How did the boy know the parade was coming?
    1. His friends tugged his shirt or he heard the music from the distance

ITEM 8 PHONE CALL

I was out in the garden with Han when the phone rang. She quickly ran in and picked it up. “Hello,” she said breathlessly. Then, “No, it is not. You have the … Huh! Some people.” She came back outside/

“Another order for Chinese takeaways,” she muttered.

  1. Why was she breathless?
    1. Cause she ran all the way to the phone

  1. Who was calling?
    1. Another call from chinese takeaways

  1. Why did she say another? |Cause they must have called before|

Probability Games By Liana

Task Description: Today this morning team tui had played some fun games about probability. We learned about what probability was through fun games. Probability is basically the chances of something happening for instance is it more likely to land on tails then it is to land on heads while flipping a coin? No its not. In fact it’s more of a 50/50 chance because there are 2 sides and it could land on either. Probability is just making a prediction on what will happen. Here is a photo of everyone playing a game!
