That Was Matariki By Liana

Task Description: For Writing this week we had to write a poem related to Matariki. Enjoy reading!!

Have you ever seen Matariki?

Sure you have!

Remember the luminous stars shining from the distance

The way everyone gasped of amazement at the sight of the breathtaking view

Everyone grinning as they stare deeply into the night sky thinking about good memories

That was Matariki

Have you ever felt Ururangi?

Sure you have!

The cold breeze passing by your face, the trees swaying back and forth

Leafs showering over me as one single leaf lands on my hand

The euphoria I felt as the air swirled around me

The cold breeze swaying my hair back and forth

That was Ururangi

Have you ever smelt Tupu a nuku, Tupu a rangi?

Sure you have!

Remember the time or smell of fresh fruits being mashed up in a bowl

The smell of food drifting around in the air

That scrumptious smell  filling my nostrils

The smell of vegetables being cut

The fresh smell of herbs and spices

That was Tupu a nuku, Tupu a rangi

Have you ever heard Waipuna rangi?

Sure you have!

Remember the sound of the birds chirping early in the morning

The sound of rain dripping down

The sound of the trees rustling

The sound of water drops dripping down endlessly

The sound of of people running around

That was Waipuna rangi

Have you ever tasted Waita?

Sure you have!

Remember the mouth watering taste of seafood entering your mouth

Remember the way it melted in your mouth

The strong flavourful taste spreading all over your mouth

The way the seasonings pop in your mouth

Thinking that the food was from heaven

That was Waita

Camp Poem By Liana

Camp by Liana

Water splashing over my clothes

My arm swelling up

A ray of sun shining over my face

A cacophony of sounds

Breezy wind swaying my hair back and forth6

Sand floating in the water

The scent of salt water filling up my nostrils

That was Kayaking

The sound of people going through the mud

The smell of fresh grass filling the air

Sweat slowly dripping down my face

As my shoelaces unlaced

The sound of the trees swaying back and forth

But my focus going more towards the north

That was Orientering

Legs shaking out of fear

I just want to disappear

I see people going up the ladder

Nervousness increasing

I hear my name

I freeze

My heart starts thumping as fast as lightning

As gets more frightening

That was Abseiling

Boat tipping left and right

I start screaming with fright

My friend yelling to stop screaming

Was I dreaming?

I THINK THE BOAT WILL CAPSIZE

it didn’t…

That’s a surprise…

The experience was quite a scare

Almost to the point i couldn’t bare

That was Sailing
